Online Procurement
After the withdrawal of such online retailers as Asos, Amazon and Ebay from the Russian market, a rush began on Russian Internet sites. There is most likely no direct investigative link here, with a high probability this is how consumers reacted to empty shelves in hypermarkets and rising prices. But it is interesting how domestic e-commerce will cope with the pressure and what opportunities for development it will find.
So far, we see that Wildberries has faced serious problems. The company had a failure in the operation of the website and mobile application, which made the customers of the aggregator nervous. About half of users reported difficulties accessing the app and tracking orders. Experts believe that Wildberries was hacked. Most likely, this is not the last attempt (and not the last successful one) to hack Russian services, hackers are now active, and online businesses need to be on the lookout.
To the delight of Russian consumers, AliExpess remains available. AliExpress Russia is a Russian company that operates in Russia and the CIS countries (excluding Ukraine). The e-commerce joint venture, established in 2019, is a separate company from the global AliExpress, which has a presence in other countries. The marketplace is operating normally. The press service of the company said that all ruble payments for AliExpress Russia users using Mastercard and Visa cards work as usual, except for payments using Apple and Google Pay. It is also possible to pay for orders with cards of the Mir payment system and electronic wallets. Delivery of orders is carried out in standard terms. “In addition, the withdrawal of funds for Russian sellers on AliExpress is stable on request. We expect this situation to continue in the future,” the company’s press service assured SCRussia.
